Current Trends in AI

In this section, we will take a look at the latest trends in artificial intelligence. We will highlight the rate at which it is being adopted across industries, how usage of the technology is growing, and where investment/innovation is focused. Using graphs, this section will provide a snapshot of AI’s current impact and the direction it is headed.

AI in Businesses

In 2024, companies invested a huge amount in AI. Over $100 billion was invested in the U.S. alone, and a large chunk of that went to generative AI technologies. More and more businesses are beginning to use AI in their daily processes now, with about 78% saying they have implemented AI tools into their workplace. That number has increased by close to 50% from a little over 30% in 2023! This graph undoubtedly shows that AI isn’t just an experiment anymore. The technology is becoming a core part of how companies work and operate, therefore affecting almost every industry all over the world.

The U.S. is Leading

The U.S. is still leading in producing the best AI models in the world. However, other countries, especially China, are catching up quite fast. In 2024, the U.S. focused on making more high-profile models, yet the quality of models from other countries, like China, is nearly the same now. This means the global AI race is getting more competitive, with innovation spreading all over the world. It is important that the U.S. Government adopts the technology to remain at the top.

Rising Regulations

In 2024, governments began to actually start taking AI seriously. In the U.S., federal agencies introduced 59 new AI-related regulations. That is more than double the number from 2023! Throughout the world, mentions of AI in legislation rose by more than 20% across dozens of countries. At the same time, countries such as Canada, China, and Saudi Arabia pledged billions of dollars toward AI infrastructure, chips, and research. This graph shows that policymakers aren’t just watching from the sidelines, but they’re shaping the future of AI through new laws and big investments.
